Betty Mahone

Mrs. Betty Mahone is married to the Rev. Lishers Mahone, Jr., Pastor of Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church, Joliet, IL.  They are the parents of three offspring who are a belssing to them. They also are the very proud grandparents of one granddaughter.
Mrs. Mahone is a graduate of Northern Illinois University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education and was inducted as a charter member of the Delta Omicron Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
She has taught Home Economics in the Public Schools of Chicago and Joliet for thirty-four years, including the following schools: Chicago Vocational High School (4 years), Simeon Vocation High School (16 years), and Joliet Central High School (14 years).  Retiring from traching in June 2000, she hopes that she has made a difference in the lives of the young prople that she has had the opportunity to educated.
Her Brown Chaperl activities include the Women's Missionary Society, Young Peoples' Division (Y.P.D.), Sunday School, Board of Christian Education, Lay Organization, Vacation Bible School, and wherever she is needed to serve.  She initiated and has chaired our city-wide Annual Black College Fair for the past eight years.
Other church related activities have included the following: 1st Vice President of the women's Missionary Society, Chicago Conference Branch (4 years); Local Young People's Division Director (12 years); South Area Y.P.D. Director (8 years); and Conference Branch Y.P.D. Director (2 years).
She has also served as President of the Minister's Wives Alliance of Chicago (2 years), Vice President of the Fourth District Minister's Wives Organization (2 years), and President of Fourth District Minister's Wives (1 year).
